The EDGE 11U – PeeWee Minor- team went undefeated this weekend at their Tournament in Philadelphia.
Here\’s the report :
The Long Island Edge 07s decided to change their fall tournament this year. They headed to King of Russia, Pennsylvania for the Philadelphia Liberty Cup instead of the Haunted Shootout in Marlborough Massachusetts. Their peewee division consisted of the Bedford Bears, Hudson Valley Bears and Team Philadelphia.
The Edge opened the tournament against Hudson Valley on Friday afternoon with neither team able to find the back out the net through the mid-point of the second period. With just over six minutes left in the period Jack slid the puck over to Evan who buried one to open the scoring. The Edge used the momentum to cruise to an easy 6-1 win.
An 8:20 am puck drop started the second day of the tournament against Bedford. Just 4 minutes into the game Evan opened the scoring again, this time on a a feed from George at the point. Entering the second period with a 1-0 lead, the Edge went up two goals as Johnny found Evan in the low slot for his second of the game. But the Bears kept the pressure on and pulled within one with four minutes left in the second. The teams exchanged a pair of goals in the third and it wasn\’t until Sebastian scored with 10 seconds left in the game the Edge secured their victory.
It was all Edge against a chippy Team Philadelphia for the afternoon game with Noah tallying twice as the Edge raced to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first and never looked back en route to a 6-1 victory.
After a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers Practice Facility and dinner in Center City Philadelphia, Coach Nick gave a lenient curfew with the Sunday championship game set at 11:10 am in a re-match against Team Philadelphia. The Edge had control from the drop of the puck with the outcome no different than the first game against Philadelphia. The Edge won the game to be crowned the division champions.
More to come…
