Here\’s more information about the 2017-18 Edge Mite – Squirt – Peewee Teams:
Mite Hockey – Hockey memories begin here……
MITES: Players born in 2010/2011/2012 – Places available for position players and goalies
Coaching:
Our coaching staff will consist of players who have finished their playing careers along with parents who have the right approach, a good sense of fairness, good hockey knowledge, and understand that Port Washington Skating Center is not MSG. We will follow the ADM program established by USA Hockey. Mite practices will be overseen by Kris Nielsen, who has coached many successful teams from mite through peewee over the past 15 years. We will emphasize skill development, team play, and expect that players will all be given an even amount of time on ice. While games are fun, it\’s the practice time that is most important item to focus on.
We expect to have 2 mite teams, each with 12 or so players.
Our Major (black) Team will be selected based on experience, enthusiasm, and attitude and will consist of both 2010 birth year players.
Our Minor (white) Team will consist of players born in 2010 or 2011 with lesser or no previous travel and hockey experience. Players born in 2012 with well developed skills may also be considered.
Practices:
Practices will be scheduled for Wednesday and Friday 5:45-6:45 PM. We will also have bi-weekly power skating with the Erik Nates Hockey Group on Thursdays at 6:15 PM, which may be in addition to team practice, or substituted for one of the team practices. Goaltenders will have a monthly goalie clinic with Ron Petronella and other instructors on Mondays at 7:30 PM.
We will open our season with a Mite Jamboree at Port Washington in early September.
IMPORTANT : The EDGE follows the guidelines of USA Hockey ADM program, emphasizing skill development and playing cross ice games only.

Squirt Hockey – Start to play the real game……
10U Teams (Squirts):
Players born in 2008/2009 … Positions are open and a competitive tryout is expected
Hockey becomes more like the real game as we graduate from \”cross-ice\” to full ice games. All rules of the game are taught and enforced. We are looking for players with the right talent, experience, attitude and motivation to add to our teams. We expect to have a fair, competitive tryout. We expect to field a Major team (2010) playing in the Tier II Division of the LIAH and a Minot Team playing ion the Tier III division. Players born in 2008 with lesser skills or experience may be candidates to skate with the Minor (2008/9) team where they can continue to successfully develop their skills.
